The weather and likely
sailing, conditions
The weather on the West Coast
of Scotland can best be described as "variable".
In a week it is likely to change several times;
in a fortnight we can practically guarantee that
you will practice reefing at least once! We have
to admit that it rains occasionally. Thus good
wet weather gear is strongly advised.
The West Coast of Scotland is
beautiful but remote, and the Skipper's sailing
experience should reflect the fact that conditions
can change rapidly and that the yacht will more
often be lying to it's own ground tackle than
tied up alongside a cosy pontoon. Whilst formal
qualifications for the Skipper (Coastal Skipper
or above) are useful, they are not essential and
we are happy to discuss with you prior to booking
how your experience fits the conditions. Alternatively,
why not let our experienced skippers sail the
boat for you while you relax and enjoy the scenery.
OPTIONS
We offer the following choices
to help you tailor the holiday to your needs:-
- Services of a qualified
skipper.
- Corporate Charters
- Outboard engine.
- Waterproof Clothing
- Extra charts for extended
Cruising Limits
- Sleeping bags.
- Food and drink provisions
(see below)
- Holiday insurance.
Simply indicate your requirements on the Booking Form. You can still select extras up to the week before your holiday, but it is recommended that you do so well in advance of your trip to ensure availability.
We can help with provisioning
your yacht. We can pass your order to the
local Mace shop, who can supply groceries,
fresh produce and domestic items. Wines
and spirits are also available from a local
supplier. Order forms will be sent with
your joining instructions and your order(s)
will be boxed up to await your arrival.
If you believe that provisioning means visiting
the best restaurants on your route, we can
provide some suggestions.

Skippered
Charter
Let us do the work
We
offer "Whole Boat" Skippered Charters
and are pleased to be able to offer any of our boat
with a Skipper. If
you would like to charter any of our other boats
with a Skipper, we can offer the services of a pool
of experienced Skippers who hold the Commercial
Yachtmaster qualification.
The Advantages
You may wish to sit back and
relax and enjoy the Western Isles with an experienced
Skipper being responsible for the safety of the
boat.
This is a very good way of getting more sea-time,
miles and training in if you require the experience
towards a formal qualification.
You may wish to choose a theme for your week.
We have previously catered for such diverse interests
as:-
- Wild life
- Photography
- Hill walking/Munro
Bagging
- Island Bagging
- Distillery Trail
